Prairie Nymph recently had an experience that had her pretty upset, and after I read it, I was pretty disgusted with her in-law's ignorance and prejudice as well. This person insinuated that a portrait of a naked baby breastfeeding was an issue that would concern social services. From the description, I'm guessing it looks something like this:
In response, I present to you a bunch of people who mostly likely never have, and never will be, approached by social services for these pictures of them caring for their babies. Note that three of the images are the creations of Anne Geddes, whose works are sold nationwide in the US, with no legal ramifications. Other pictures are works by professional photographers, and some are amateur snapshots. All of them are beautiful. (Click the image to view the source as far back as I could find it)
peace.

Wow, we had such pictures taken with our first son, and will never see it as anything but beautiful, natural and good. The only thing I question is the mental health of the people taking offense.
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing[ly sad] how ashamed people are at the human body.
ReplyDeleteIt’s not that I dislike breast feeding photography, I just wonder why it’s better received than my “newborns taking dumps” series.
ReplyDeleteI loved most of these, and then I got to the one of the woman not breastfeeding, but the baby laying with his/her head over the vulva. And I shook my head and felt disgusted by it... It surprised me the strong reaction I felt, but it really shouldn't. I feel disgusted by my own female body (I'm working on it!), so it makes sense that I would be disgusted by someone else's... In an ideal world, we'd all recognize the beauty of the human body... and I wouldn't be disgusted or afraid of it, because there would be no reason.
ReplyDelete(Oh, and I recognize that MY problem with the picture doesn't mean there is a problem with the picture. Or that anyone else should have to censor themselves because I have issues... It seems unreasonable to even consider asking that other people hide to make me feel comfortable.)
